Send (); }); / ** / The Council of Ministers yesterday adopted a pilot program Digital School. As government officials believe, is an important first step in the transition from Polish schools “Cretaceous period” for the digital age. We begin, therefore, a great educational experiment. The results of the pilot will have a huge impact on the planned multi-annual program by the government digitization schools. Digital Pilot School will take place from 4 April 2012 until 31 August 2013 and will include approx. 380 public primary schools. Its beneficiaries are primarily students of classes IV-VI and primary school teachers. Program is coordinated by the Minister of National Education in collaboration with the minister of administration and digitization. Although in the first place emphasizes the purchase of equipment (teachers and students will receive computers or tablets, digital electronic textbooks and other teaching aids financed by the government), it should pay attention to a breakthrough in thinking about education. Equipment itself does not equate with better education (higher quality). Therefore, the pilot consists of four complementary components: “e-school”, “e-disciple”, “e-teaching” and “e-learning resources”. None of them is less important than the other, and only if all four will be implemented at a high level, the pilot will be able to succeed. Each school will decide what equipment they need – for teaching purposes (e-school) and for students (e-student). These two components will cost the state budget 50 million. The grant will depend on the size of the school: small, up to 100 students can count on 90 thousand. zł; larger, up to 300 students, will receive a maximum of 140 thousand. zł; the most – up to 200 thousand. zł. Pilot schools to choose province governor – will get money from the government in proportion to the number of primary schools in the province. Ultimately about who gets to be a pilot, decides draw. However, schools will have to make its own contribution – 20% of the amount by which they want to apply. This need not be a financial contribution for the purchase of equipment, it may also be costs of implementation and maintenance of equipment in schools, for example. Schools prepare technically for the use of computer hardware, will take care of Speed Internet etc. Key for the digitization of teaching competencies and skills teachers the use of technology for teaching purposes. The component “e-teacher” spent on teacher training 20 million. Efforts are also wide digital educational resources, based on which it will be carried out lessons (e-resources). The creation of such resources will be allocated 43 million. Both of these components will be co-financed within the framework of Human Capital Operational Program 2007 – 2013 from the European Social Fund. It seems that in the pilot deliberately put the greatest emphasis on the development of teachers. Training alone may not be enough to become a “digital teacher.” Between theory and practice of application of new technologies, despite appearances is a large gap in the Polish education. Therefore, in order to facilitate the transition to the teachers “digital age” will be trained 40 “e-coaches” and 1200 “e-Leaders”, and 19,000 e-coordinators use of new technologies in teaching. There will be substantive materials and training for teachers and interschool IT platform by which teachers will be able to cooperate and exchange ideas. It seems nietrafionym idea to further educational portal Scholaris also developed educational resources. At the portal raining already many critical words from education experts (see eg. Whither Scholaris or Scholaris – a portal that arouses emotions), and it would be better to design a website from scratch and very hard to think about its structure. The current portal can be short enough to say that its creator (or better: reanimatorzy, or ORE) have little experience in constructing such large educational resources and therefore come out of the good educational knot (average quality). You can have a legitimate concern here that adding new materials contribute to an even bigger mess in the Polish-language educational resources in the network. Certainly not I recommend here of adding new resources prepared as part of a pilot Digital School. It seems to be an interesting idea to Polish Television has prepared educational programs for schools, which would be available on the educational portal of TVP. Could do with more explanation of how this would look like. I know from experience that educational television productions, if you have a really high quality, and are also very expensive. Or do allocating a dozen million zlotys, or not doing at all. A very important element of the pilot is to develop electronic textbooks for classes IV-VI of primary schools, which will be made public in an open educational portal (hopefully not on the Scholarisie …). This means that it will be available to everyone and free of charge, and anyone can use them in any way. For this purpose they will be made available – as well as other educational resources – licensed under Creative Commons (CC) Attribution or another free license. It’s an idea that really do not like the Polish publishers, fearing the loss of revenues from the sale of textbooks. The direction of change is entirely justified if you actually think about equal opportunities in access to education and bridging the digital gap. The arguments that we are a civilization always read the book and paper books (Peter Marciszuk, Rzeczpospolita, 04.02.2012), so you should not invest in e-books because it distracts from reading books are a bit frivolous. We can say that we are a civilization of fire – from the dawn of history, human beings “pichcili” their own meals over the fire (hearth), but developing – do not abandon current gas cookers and electric, and we do not go on the pot to cook a dinner (unless you ‘grilling meat “). Reading e-books and learning with e-resources are also still reading. There are more and more studies showing that, thanks to mobile devices, we read more and more often. With the pilot assessment of the impacts of Digital Schools will have to wait. Well, the Ministry of Administration and Digitization planned research activities, in order to measure what methods to check the digital school. It should treat this as a pilot experiment (because such targets are usually the pilot) and get hard data that will allow for deeper modernization and digitization of Polish school. It should also collect all the criticisms and analyze any failures and shortcomings – just what we need. The fifth component of the pilot must be broad evaluation. Students deprived of technological achievements achieve weaker results, but also the weaker ones are those who use in excess of a computer, tablet, cell phone or the Internet. Is modern technologies help in learning? Scientists are of the opinion on this issue has long divided. Provides new arguments recent international study skills of 15-year-olds (PISA).
